Ads That Make Us LOL

Oscar Wilde once said, “It is a curious fact that people are never so trivial as when they take themselves seriously.” It’s safe to say that Mr. Wilde knew a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t.  He obviously understood the importance of being earnest, but he also knew that a good giggle wouldn’t kill him either.

There’s that unmistakable look of panic in a client’s eyes anytime we suggest incorporating humor into their campaign. It’s as if a sharp-toothed rodent is gnawing on the heels of their perfectly polished pumps beneath the conference room table. Eyes wide, lips twisted, hands clasped with white knuckles. Why? Everyone knows that humor is a gamble. You always run the risk of being, you know, not funny.

But often with risk comes reward. Some of the best ads in the past few years have used humor as their cornerstone. Whether the billboard  makes you smirk, or the commercial has you clutching your side in hysterics, a light, humorous spin on an advert can make a world of difference.
