The Spice Girls made a few questionable choices. Most obviously with their outfit choices. But also with their lyrics. I’ll have you know that “zigazigah” is not a real word.

That said, they did get one thing right. That whole girl power thing. Women are tough. Women are smart. Women are, indeed, powerful.

However advanced civilization may be, no matter how tiny our handhelds, or how light our laptops, we still live in a world where women are challenged by limitations. Even in 2012, it’s tough for a woman to get a piece of the pie. Whether you’re in a professional field, an artistic industry, or pursuing an athletic career, the glass ceiling still exists. Especially in advertising, but that’s for another blog post.

Argue you might, but until the world see’s a Mary Zuckerberg or a Betty Gates, it’s fairly safe to say that gender continues to dictate the imbalance of power in our society.

The great philosopher Roseanne Barr once said, “the thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power, you just have to take it.”

Riffing on this concept, Nike has launched a new campaign, and titled it #MakeTheRules, wherein female athletes talk about taking charge of their careers, and taking titles while doing so.

It’s an inspiring campaign, and most certainly worth a watch. View it below, and share it with friends. This is a concept that deserves to go viral.
